How to fill in the Menus template
1. Overview
The BulkFlow Menu Template allows you to quickly import or update navigation menus in bulk. By filling it out correctly, you ensure that your menu structure is accurate and ready for use across your store.
2. Requirements
Before filling in the Menu template, make sure you have:
- Downloaded the correct Menu Import Template from BulkFlow.
- Prepared your menu data to add (in Excel or CSV format).
- Connected your Shopify store to BulkFlow.
3. How to Fill the Menu Template
Step 1: Download the Template
- From your BulkFlow Dashboard, click the Download Template button. Choose Menu Template to download it.

- Or you can click directly on the Import button and select Menu as the entity.

- And click the Download demo template line right under Menu to quickly get the file.

Step 2: Fill in the Template
Use the following fields when structuring your menus. Fill them carefully to ensure correct import and hierarchy:
Column | Description | Accepted Values & Examples |
|---|---|---|
ID | Unique ID of the menu itself. Leave blank when creating a new menu with an Import feed — Shopify will generate it automatically. Required when using an Update feed, to match the existing menu you want to update. | Eg: 55642134 |
Handle | Unique identifier for the menu. Each handle must be unique across your store. | Eg: Main-menu-demo |
Title | Display name of the navigation menu. Required when creating a new menu. | Eg: Main menu Demo |
Menu Item: Title | Name of the menu item as it appears in navigation. Required when adding new items. | Eg: Collections 2 |
Menu Item: Resource Type | Type of resource the menu item links to (product, collection, page, URL, etc.). | ARTICLE Links to a blog post. |
Menu Item: Resource ID | ID of the resource linked to the menu item. | Eg: 32332323 |
Menu Item: Resource Handle | Handle for the linked resource, alternative to using the Resource ID. | Eg: collection1 |
Menu Item: Collection Tags | Filters a collection by specified tags (comma-separated). Only works when linking to a collection. | Eg: autumn, summer |
Menu Item: URL | Relative or full URL for the menu item. Used when linking to external or custom pages. | Eg: /about-us/ |
Menu Item: Parent Title | Name of the parent menu item for hierarchy organization. A menu item can also be nested under another submenu item, not just a top-level item. | Eg: Collections 2 |
Menu Item: Position | Order of the menu item within its parent. Lower numbers appear first. Position restarts at 1 for each parent level. | Eg: 1 |
Step 3: Save the File in the Correct Format
- File Upload: Save your file as XLSX or CSV (UTF-8) and upload it manually.
- Google Sheet: Use a shared Google Sheet link.
- File URL: Use a direct URL to connect your file.
- Google Drive: Use a shared Google Drive link.
- FTP/SFTP: You can also upload via FTP or SFTP.
- Dropbox: Use a shared Dropbox link.
- One Drive: Use a shared One Drive link.
Step 4: Run a Demo, Then Process Your Menu Feed
- Click Demo Import to run the feed on a small sample of your data and preview the result before committing to anything.
- Once you're satisfied with the preview, click Full Import to process the entire feed.
- You can check the result and download it to see which menu items were successfully imported and which were not.
4. Tips
- Validate Data: Double-check for typos, missing fields, or incorrect formats.
- Keep Formatting: Do not delete or rename columns.
- Test Small Batches: Try importing a few menu items first to ensure accuracy.
