How to structure Menus in the template

1. Overview

The BulkFlow Menu Template allows you to quickly import or update navigation menus in bulk. By filling it out correctly, you ensure that your menu structure is accurate and ready for use across your store.


2. Requirements

Before filling in the Menu template, make sure you have:

  • Downloaded the correct Menu Import Template from BulkFlow.
  • Prepared your menu data to add (in Excel or CSV format).
  • Connected your Shopify store to BulkFlow.


3. How to Fill the Menu Template

Step 1: Download the Template

  • From your BulkFlow Dashboard, click the Download Template button. Choose Menu Template to download it.

  • Or you can create a new Feed, select Entity Menu

  • And click the Download demo template line right under Menu to quickly get the file.

Step 2: Fill in the Template

Use the following fields when structuring your menus. Fill them carefully to ensure correct import and hierarchy:

Handle

Unique identifier for the menu. Each handle must be unique across your store.

Eg: main-menu

Title

Display name of the navigation menu. Required when creating a new menu.

Eg: Main menu

Menu Item: ID

Globally unique identifier for a menu item. Auto-generated when created. Used for linking updates.

Eg: 55642134

Menu Item: Title

Name of the menu item as it appears in navigation. Required when adding new items.

Eg: Home

Menu Item: Resource Type

Type of resource the menu item links to (product, collection, page, URL, etc.).

ARTICLE Links to a blog post. / BLOG Links to a blog. / CATALOG Links to the “All Products” page. / COLLECTION Links to a specific collection. / COLLECTIONS Links to the “All Collections” page. / CUSTOMER_ACCOUNT_PAGE Links to customer-facing pages like orders or account settings. / FRONTPAGE Links to the store’s homepage. / HTTP Links to a custom external or internal URL. / METAOBJECT Links to a Metaobject entry. / PAGE Links to a content page from Online Store → Pages. / PRODUCT Links to a specific product. / SEARCH Links to the store’s search page. / SHOP_POLICY Links to a store policy page (e.g., refund or privacy policy).

Menu Item: Resource ID

ID of the resource linked to the menu item.

Eg: 32332323

Menu Item: Resource Handle

Handle for the linked resource, alternative to using the Resource ID.

Eg: summer-jeans

Menu Item: Collection Tags

Filters a collection by specified tags (comma-separated). Only works when linking to a collection.

Eg: autumn, summer

Menu Item: URL

Relative or full URL for the menu item. Used when linking to external or custom pages.

Eg: https://bulkflow.io/

Menu Item: Parent Title

Name of the parent menu item for hierarchy organization.

Eg: New Collection

Menu Item: Position

Order of the menu item within its parent. Lower numbers appear first.

Eg: 1

Do not change column headers or structure. Incorrect formats may cause import errors.

Step 3: Save the File in the Correct Format

  • Local File: Save as XLSX or CSV (UTF-8).
  • Online File: Use a valid URL or a Google Sheet link.
  • FTP/SFTP: You can also upload via FTP or SFTP.


4. Tips

  • Validate Data: Double-check for typos, missing fields, or incorrect formats.
  • Keep Formatting: Do not delete or rename columns.
  • Test Small Batches: Try importing a few menu items first to ensure accuracy.

  1. Do I need to use the BulkFlow template?

Yes. Only the provided BulkFlow template is supported for importing menus.

  1. Can I upload from Google Sheets?

Yes. Make sure the sheet is publicly accessible or properly shared. If you upload an XLSX file to Google Sheets, convert it to Google Sheet format or use the File URL option to link it successfully.

  1. Will I be notified if my upload fails?

Yes. BulkFlow provides error messages for failed imports so you can correct and retry, or contact customer support for faster assistance.
