# How to fill in the Redirect Template

# **How to Fill in the Redirect Template**
# **1. Overview**
The BulkFlow Redirect Template allows you to create URL redirects in bulk within Shopify. A redirect automatically sends visitors from an old URL to a new destination when the original URL is no longer being used.
This is especially useful when changing product handles, collection URLs, page URLs, or migrating a store from another platform. By creating redirects, you can help customers reach the correct pages while preserving SEO performance and preventing 404 errors.
# **2. Requirements**
Before filling in the Redirect Template, make sure you have:
* Downloaded the Redirect Template from BulkFlow.
* Prepared the old and new URLs you want to redirect.
* Connected your Shopify store to BulkFlow.
# **3. How to Fill the Redirect Template**
### **Step 1: Download the Redirect Template**
From your BulkFlow Dashboard, click the **Download Template** button and choose **Redirect**.

Or you can click directly on the **Import** button and select **Redirect** as the entity. And click the **Download demo template** line right under Redirect to quickly get the file.

### **Step 2: Fill in Required Fields**
To create a Redirect Feed, the following fields are required:
| **Column** | **Description** | **Accepted Values & Example** |
| Path | The original URL path that visitors may still access. When a customer visits this URL, Shopify will check whether a redirect exists. | /products/red-shirt |
| Target | The destination URL path where visitors should be redirected. | /products/classic-red-shirt |

### **Example**
| **Path** | **Target** |
| /products/red-shirt | /products/classic-red-shirt |
| /pages/about-old | /pages/about-us |
| /collections/summer-sale | /collections/sale |

### **NOTE**
* Both **Path** and **Target** must start with /.
* Do not include your store domain.
* Each Path should only appear once in the file.
* The Target URL should already exist in Shopify.
* One row creates one redirect rule.
### **Correct Examples**
| **Path** | **Target** |
| /products/red-shirt | /products/classic-red-shirt |
| /pages/about-old | /pages/about-us |

### **Incorrect Examples**
| **Path** | **Target** |
| [__https://yourstore.com/products/red-shirt__](https://yourstore.com/products/red-shirt) | [__https://yourstore.com/products/classic-red-shirt__](https://yourstore.com/products/classic-red-shirt) |
| products/red-shirt | products/classic-red-shirt |

### **Step 3: Save the File Correctly**
* **File Upload**: Save your file as XLSX or CSV (UTF-8) and upload it manually.
* **Google Sheet**: Use a shared Google Sheet link.
* **File URL**: Use a direct URL to connect your file.
* **Google Drive**: Use a shared Google Drive link.
* **FTP/SFTP**: You can also upload via FTP or SFTP.
* **Dropbox**: Use a shared Dropbox link.
* **One Drive**: Use a shared One Drive link.
### **Step 4: Run a Demo, Then Process Your Redirect Feed**
* Click **Demo Import** to run the feed on a small sample of your data and preview the result before committing to anything.
* Once you're satisfied with the preview, click **Full Import** to process the entire feed.
* You can check the result and download it to see which redirects were successfully imported and which were not.
# **4. Tips**
* Verify that all Target URLs already exist before importing.
* Use redirects whenever you change product, collection, or page handles.
* Avoid duplicate Path values in the same file.
* Test a small number of redirects first if you are importing a large dataset.
# **5. Frequently Asked Questions**
### **1. Do I need Product IDs or Handles to create redirects?**
No. Redirect feeds only require the **Path** and **Target** fields.
### **2. Can I redirect products, collections, and pages?**
Yes. Redirects can point to any valid Shopify URL, including products, collections, pages, blogs, and policy pages.

### **4. Can I update existing redirects?**
Yes. Existing redirects can be modified using a Redirect Update Feed.
### **5. Why should I use redirects?**
Redirects help preserve SEO rankings, prevent broken links, and improve the customer experience when URLs change.
